Guatemala and the Bay Islands - trip of in Honduras, Guatemala

From the Mayan culture to the desired Roatan

We immerse ourselves in the inescapable Guatemala; lakes, volcanoes, Mayan ruins, vibrant markets to then move to Honduras, the paradisiacal Islands of the Bay, to end the trip diving in the idyllic Roatan.

Itinerario

Day 1: Flight to Antigua ( Guatemala)
Upon arrival at the airport, meet and transfer to Antigua.

Day 2: Antigua
Free day to visit the city. In Antigua seems to have stopped the time, walking through its streets is to go back to the time of Spanish colonization. There is no old town, all of it is old and immutable over time; broad streets of unequal cobblestones, solid houses with one floor of baroque facades, large windows protected by grilles flooded with flowers and presiding over its pedestal, the Agua volcano. Spectacular and majestic: protecting and frightening the city at the same time

Day 3: Antigua – Pacaya Volcano – Antigua
First thing we went to the Pacaya National Park, one of the three active volcanoes in Guatemala. From the foot of the volcano begins the ascent that lasts three hours, although there is also the possibility of climbing on horseback. During the whole trip we enjoyed the landscape that surrounds us, presided over by the Agua volcano, which is right in front of us. Includes a Spanish-speaking guide. In the afternoon we return to Antigua

Day 4: Antigua – Chichicastenango – Lago Atitlán
In Chichicastenango, on Thursdays and Sundays, the largest market in Central America is celebrated. A few kilometers away we can already see buses full of people and goods, people on foot with big bundles on their heads, women with packages and children carrying their backs .... all on the way to the market. Throughout the morning we wander unhurriedly for him, admiring, tasting, smelling ... and also contemplating the Mayan ceremonies held in front of the Catholic churches. We eat in their typical stalls before leaving for Atitlan. After a boat tour, we stayed in Panajachel, hotel with magnificent views from where we can perform activities such as horseback riding or high mountain diving on the lake

Day 5: Atitlán Lake
Atitlán, the Guatemalan highlands. And possibly the area where the tradition is more rooted. Located at 1500m above sea level, it has a length of 18 km. Its main peculiarity are the three volcanoes that escort it: the Atitlán, the Tolimán and the San Pedro. From any point you look at, the views are magnificent; the green of the high mountains of the Guatemalan highlands pours its vegetation into the lake and the mid-afternoon mists envelop the volcanoes forming fantasy and nostalgic landscapes

Day 6: Atitlán Lake - Guatemala
We arrived in Guatemala in the middle of the afternoon. Free to visit the city

Day 7: Guatemala - La Ceiba (Honduras) - Roatán

To think of Honduras is to think of jungles, ruins and above all a Caribbean Sea dotted with paradisiacal islands.
